Ann Arbor's NOMO has blended the percussive afro beat sound of Fela Kuti with equal parts of Sun Ra and The Art Ensemble of Chicago to come up with something brand new and totally uncategorizable. Leader Elliot Bergman sees their music as a "transcendent, elemental sound-one that moves both bodies and spirits". Can't argue with that.
